Pakistan Reaffirms Commitment to Protecting Chinese Nationals and Projects
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to improving security for Chinese citizens and safeguarding key projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). This statement came during a recent meeting with Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zidong at the Chinese embassy, where they discussed the aftermath of an incident in Karachi that left two Chinese nationals injured due to guard fire.
Naqvi expressed his condolences for the victims, offering sympathy to the injured individuals and their families, and assured the ambassador that efforts were underway to identify and hold accountable those responsible. He also updated Jiang on the ongoing investigation into the matter.
Emphasizing Pakistan’s commitment, Naqvi stated, “Ensuring the safety of Chinese citizens is a top priority, and we are taking all necessary actions to enhance security around CPEC projects.” He further assured that additional protective measures would be implemented to create a safe environment for Chinese nationals working in Pakistan.
Both leaders stressed the need for a collaborative approach to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future. Ambassador Jiang highlighted the growing strength of Pakistan-China relations, noting significant strides in bilateral cooperation. He thanked Naqvi for his role in organizing the upcoming visit of the Chinese Prime Minister.
In addition, Jiang inquired about the health of former President Asif Ali Zardari and conveyed his best wishes on behalf of Chinese President Xi Jinping. The meeting also saw participation from Pakistan’s Interior Secretary and senior officials from the Chinese embassy, underscoring the importance of continued cooperation between the two countries.
