Lahore, The Additional Secretary of Shrines, Rana Shahid Saleem, has emphasized that Pakistan is actively pursuing measures for the prosperity and welfare of minorities in Pakistan. With the establishment of the Pakistan-India Kartarpur Corridor, the message of inclusivity for Pakistan’s minorities has resonated worldwide.
Speaking during ceremonies held in honor of Sikh pilgrims at Gurudwara Rohri Sahib Aymanabad and Gurudwara Shri Dera Sahib, Rana Shahid Saleem highlighted the priorities of the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) officials, focusing on the security and renovation of minority places of worship, including Gurudwaras managed by the Board.
Saleem also mentioned that the ETPB is providing scholarships to expose the young generation of Sikh and Hindu followers to education, ensuring a safe and bright future.
Sardar Amir Singh, Sardar Stowant Singh, Deputy Secretary General Amjad Altaf, Deputy Secretary Shrines Nadeem Dhriju, and others also participated in the ceremonies and discussed the ongoing efforts to promote minority rights in Pakistan.
The establishment of the Kartarpur Corridor in 2019 was a landmark decision by the Pakistani government that has facilitated visa-free travel for Sikh pilgrims from India to visit the Kartarpur Gurdwara, the final resting place of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism.
The AWPB is a government agency tasked with managing Evacuee Trust properties, which are donated for religious or charitable purposes. The Board has been working to renovate and restore minority places of worship across Pakistan, in line with the government’s commitment to promoting religious freedom and inclusivity.
The provision of scholarships to minority students is another important step towards ensuring that the younger generation of minority communities has access to quality education. Education is essential for empowering minorities and enabling them to participate fully in Pakistani society.
Pakistan is committed to protecting the rights of all minorities and ensuring that they enjoy equal opportunities and prosperity. The government’s efforts to promote minority rights are commendable and should be continued in order to create a more just and equitable society for all Pakistanis.
