Pakistan PM visits Quetta, launches Balochistan development projects

Prime minister visits Quetta to review security progress, engage Balochistan leadership, and inaugurate major infrastructure and education development projects nationwide

Quetta  – (Special Correspondent / Web Desk) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reached Quetta on Thursday for a daylong visit, during which he is set to hold meetings with Balochistan’s provincial leadership and formally launch several development initiatives, an official statement said.

Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest province by land area, has struggled for years with militant violence tied to a separatist movement. However, recent months have seen a noticeable drop in such incidents following intelligence-led security operations.

The improving security environment has also been noted by local research bodies, some of which attribute the decline in attacks to Pakistan’s move to close its border with Afghanistan after clashes in October last year.

Pakistani officials have repeatedly accused authorities in Kabul of providing safe havens to militant groups and enabling cross-border assaults—claims that Afghan officials have denied. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Shehbaz Sharif was welcomed on arrival by Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti along with other elected representatives.

“A one-on-one meeting between the prime minister and the governor of Balochistan will be held at the Governor House in Quetta,” it added. “Governor Jaffar Khan Mandokhail will brief the prime minister on ongoing development projects in the province and the latest situation.”

Sharif will also have a meeting with the chief minister and members of the provincial cabinet before inaugurating sections of the N-25 Karachi-to-Chaman highway and the Danish Schools project.

Direct flights between Bangladesh and Pakistan restart after 14 years

The N-25 highway is a key transport artery linking Balochistan with Pakistan’s commercial hub Karachi, while Danish Schools are part of a federal initiative aimed at providing quality education to students from underprivileged backgrounds.
