Pakistan LNG Supply Disrupted After Strait of Hormuz Closure
Pakistan braces for gas shortage as LNG shipments stop after Strait of Hormuz closure.
Strait of Hormuz – (Web Desk) – Pakistan may face problems in its liquefied natural gas supply after Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz following recent attacks by the Israel and the United States on Iran, officials in the Petroleum Division said.
Sources said LNG shipments from Qatar to Pakistan have stopped for now. The pause may continue until the tense situation in the region becomes calm again.
Pakistan was expected to receive eight LNG cargoes during March. So far, only two ships have arrived in the country.
The remaining six cargoes were due on March 7, 11, 12, 16, 20 and 21. However, officials now believe these shipments may not reach Pakistan because sea routes in the region are disturbed.
Officials said the country will now rely on the LNG that is already available in the system. To save gas, the government may reduce supply for a short time. Load shedding could happen around March 20 and 21 to help manage the limited LNG supply.
Sources warned that the situation could significantly affect LNG supply for power generation across the country. In addition, gas supply to several sectors, including the industrial sector, may also face disruptions if the crisis continues.
