Pakistan Underscores Defence Diplomacy in Talks with Iran

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Iran have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening defence ties and enhancing regional security through greater collaboration, following a high-level meeting between senior defence officials from both countries held in Islamabad on Saturday.

Iran’s Minister for Defence, Brigadier General Aziz Nasir-Zadeh, met with Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif to discuss a wide range of bilateral and regional issues, including counter-terrorism efforts and defence diplomacy.

During the meeting, the two leaders reviewed matters of mutual interest and explored avenues for deeper military cooperation. The dialogue highlighted the importance of working jointly to address shared challenges in a volatile regional environment.

According to a statement issued by Pakistan’s Ministry of Defence, Minister Asif appreciated Iran’s ongoing engagement and underlined the role of defence diplomacy in fostering stability. “The Defence Minister of Pakistan expressed appreciation for Iran’s continued engagement and emphasised the importance of defence diplomacy in addressing shared security challenges,” the statement read.

Brigadier General Nasir-Zadeh expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s hospitality and reiterated Tehran’s desire to strengthen bilateral defence relations “based on mutual respect, shared values and trust.”

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both sides expressing confidence in the future of Pakistan-Iran defence cooperation. They pledged to work together toward promoting peace, prosperity, and stability across the region.
