Pakistan Eyes BRICS Membership, Says Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed

ISLAMABAD: Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed has expressed Pakistan’s interest in joining BRICS, emphasizing the country’s aspiration to align with the emerging global order of the Global South.

Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed made history as the first Pakistani to address the BRICS Forum, hosted by current chair Russia in Vladivostok, a strategic port near North Korea and Japan. The forum, organized by Russia’s ruling United Russia party, saw participation from 29 countries, including Pakistan, all vying for BRICS membership.

In his address, Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed highlighted Pakistan’s potential role in promoting peace as a member of the United Nations Security Council during 2025-2026. He underscored BRICS’ potential to foster dialogue based on equality, democratize international relations, and advocate for the demilitarization of global dynamics.

Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed commended Russia and China for their principled stance on issues such as the Gaza conflict, asserting that Israel’s actions have faced widespread condemnation globally. He criticized what he described as double standards from Western nations supportive of Israel.
