Opposition Alliance Leadership to be Decided by Consensus, PTI and JUI-F in Talks
PTI, JUI-F Continue Talks on Opposition Alliance Leadership
ISLAMABAD: The leadership of the opposition alliance will be determined through consensus among all member parties, according to sources familiar with the ongoing discussions between the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F).
Both parties have been in talks to strengthen the opposition despite ongoing differences. JUI-F has expressed their willingness to agree on the head of the alliance, provided all parties consent to the decision.
However, the JUI-F raised concerns about seat adjustments in the upcoming elections, citing previous experiences of betrayal within the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) alliance. They emphasized that they do not want to face similar treatment from PTI in the future. The JUI-F also voiced concerns regarding PTI’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, Ali Amin Gandapur.
PTI’s committee has assured that the issue will be resolved after consultations with the party’s leadership. JUI-F leaders outlined their reservations before committing to any formal alliance, with discussions also revolving around collective efforts in parliament on national issues and potential legislation.
