NSC Convenes to Discuss Regional Fallout of Escalating Iran-Israel Conflict

ISLAMABAD – A high-stakes meeting of Pakistan’s National Security Committee (NSC), chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, commenced on Monday to assess the rapidly evolving regional security environment in light of the intensifying conflict between Israel and Iran, official sources confirmed.

The top-level meeting is being attended by the chiefs of Pakistan’s armed forces, key federal ministers, and senior officials from national defence and diplomatic institutions.

Sources told Geo News that the session’s primary focus is on evaluating the strategic and security implications of the ongoing Iran-Israel war, especially following the recent direct military intervention by the United States.

According to intelligence briefings discussed during the meeting, U.S. forces—under the Trump administration—launched bunker-buster missile strikes targeting three of Iran’s nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. These developments have raised alarms over a possible wider regional conflagration.

In response, Pakistan strongly condemned the unilateral U.S. military action, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stating that the strikes on Iran violated international law and undermined efforts toward regional peace.

“The unprecedented escalation of tension and violence, owing to ongoing aggression against Iran is deeply disturbing. Any further escalation of tensions will have severely damaging implications for the region and beyond,” said a spokesperson from the Foreign Office.

Earlier today, Pakistan joined China and Russia in tabling a joint draft resolution at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), calling for an “immediate and unconditional ceasefire.” The resolution urges all parties to exercise restraint, ensure the protection of civilians and infrastructure, and recommit to a diplomatic resolution of the Iranian nuclear issue that respects all parties’ concerns.

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar, emphasized the importance of diplomatic engagement. “We urge all parties to fully adhere to international law and to prioritize dialogue and diplomacy over conflict,” he told the UNSC.

The NSC meeting is expected to conclude with key decisions regarding Pakistan’s diplomatic posture and national security preparedness amid rising regional tensions.
