Nooh Dastgir Butt Secures Historic Gold at Commonwealth Powerlifting Championship

Pakistani weightlifter Nooh Dastgir Butt made an impressive debut at the Commonwealth Powerlifting Classic and Equipped Championships in South Africa on Thursday, capturing gold in the squat event.

The recipient of the Pride of Performance Award and a Commonwealth Games gold medalist, Butt lifted an astounding 370 kilograms in his first-ever powerlifting competition, held in Sun City, South Africa. This win cemented his place in history as the first Pakistani athlete to win a gold medal in powerlifting.

“Gold medal secured at the Commonwealth Classic Powerlifting Championships 2024,” Butt proudly shared in an Instagram post, adding with determination, “Try to stop me if you can, this Butt isn’t slowing down,” while thanking his supporters.

Butt is now preparing for the upcoming bench press and deadlift events, where he is expected to bag two more gold medals, with his sights set on the overall championship title in the 120kg+ category. His ultimate goal is to return home with a total of four gold medals.

Hailing from Gujranwala, a city known for producing top weightlifters and wrestlers in Pakistan, Butt began his weightlifting journey at the age of 11. By the time he was 18, he had already started making waves in international competitions.
