Non-Tax Filers Restricted from Major Purchases, Says Aurangzeb

New Measures Introduced to Encourage Tax Compliance Across Key Sectors

Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Muhammad Aurangzeb, announced on Tuesday that non-tax filers will face restrictions when it comes to purchasing property, vehicles, and opening bank accounts.

He stressed the government’s commitment to broadening the country’s tax base, which includes implementing certain limitations on those who do not file taxes.

In an interview with a private TV channel, the minister explained that sectors such as wholesale, distribution, retail, and real estate will be more effectively integrated into the tax system. He also noted that subsidies on wheat and sugarcane will be gradually phased out.

When asked about tax policies, he shared that the government aims to introduce uniform tax regulations across all provinces in Pakistan and that new financial agreements will be signed to strengthen the system.

He further revealed that 500,000 additional individuals have been brought into the tax net this year. Using data from NADRA and other sources, the government has been able to gather more comprehensive information about taxpayers, and he reaffirmed that high-income earners are expected to contribute their fair share in taxes.
