No Shortage of Petroleum, Says Muhammad Aurangzeb

He added that LPG stocks are available for the next 15 days.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Tuesday assured that there is no shortage of petroleum products in the country and urged the public to avoid panic buying, saying supplies remain sufficient despite regional tensions.

Speaking at a meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Finance, chaired by Salim Mandviwala, the finance minister said petroleum reserves are available until the end of March, with a 28-day cover for petroleum products and crude oil stocks sufficient for another 10 days.

He added that LPG stocks are available for the next 15 days. However, LNG imports from Qatar have temporarily stopped, and the shortfall will be managed through local gas supplies.

Aurangzeb said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has constituted a special committee to monitor petroleum supplies on a daily basis. The committee, he said, is empowered to take immediate decisions to ensure the uninterrupted availability of fuel across the country.

The minister further stated that supply management measures will be implemented, along with energy conservation steps, to mitigate any potential impact if regional tensions persist. He emphasized that there is no need for “petroleum rushing” and called for better discipline in consumption.

Addressing concerns regarding international financial matters, Aurangzeb clarified that the departure of the International Monetary Fund mission was an institutional decision and that negotiations with the lender are continuing.

He also noted that the government is considering alternative energy sources to ensure stability in the energy sector and maintain supply-demand balance in the coming weeks.
