Interior Ministry speeds up passports for Pakistanis residing overseas

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi emphasized that issuing passports promptly to Pakistanis living abroad remains a top priority.

A special meeting chaired by Mohsin Naqvi and Salik Hussain, Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis, reviewed the ongoing process for obtaining Spanish resident cards for Pakistani nationals. The ministers confirmed that passports and other essential documents will be issued within a week to provide legal status to undocumented Pakistanis in Spain.

Salik Hussain noted that roughly 15,000 Pakistanis, in addition to citizens from other countries, are expected to benefit from this Spanish regularization scheme. He expressed gratitude to Interior Minister Naqvi for his full support in facilitating the initiative.

Mohsin Naqvi instructed embassies to refrain from issuing passports to criminals or wanted individuals. He also directed the immediate provision of additional staff for passport sections and expedited verification of character certificates through the National Police Bureau. Priority processing of police certificates has already been implemented.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Spain Dr. Zahoor Ahmed and the Consul General in Barcelona provided detailed briefings on the matter during the meeting, highlighting the coordinated effort to assist Pakistanis abroad.
