Mass Shooting Kills Nine In Western Canada

TUMBLER RIDGE (Web Desk): A mass shooting in the remote town of Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, left nine people dead on Tuesday, including seven victims at a secondary school, before the suspect took their own life.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) reported that 27 others were wounded, including two with serious injuries and 25 with non-life-threatening injuries. While Canadian media suggested the shooter was female, the RCMP declined to release any details about the suspect’s identity.

Police received an alert about an active shooter at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School on Tuesday afternoon. Officers responding to the scene found six people dead at the school, with a seventh victim succumbing to injuries en route to the hospital.

Separately, two more bodies were discovered at a residence in Tumbler Ridge, which police said is believed to be connected to the incident. The RCMP are also searching other homes and properties to determine if additional locations are linked to the shootings.

The municipality of Tumbler Ridge, a quiet town of roughly 2,400 residents in the Rocky Mountain foothills, expressed deep sorrow: “There are no words sufficient for the heartbreak our community is experiencing tonight,” adding that the tragedy has profoundly impacted families, students, and staff.

RCMP Northern District Commander Ken Floyd described the incident as “a rapidly evolving and dynamic situation” and thanked the community for its cooperation during the ongoing investigation.

Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney, who was scheduled to attend the Munich Security Conference, suspended his trip following the tragedy. Carney called the shooting “horrific” and expressed that he was “devastated” by the loss of life, extending his prayers and condolences to the families affected.

Federal opposition leader Pierre Poilievre described the attack as a “senseless act of violence.”
