Nawaz Sharif Gilgit Baltistan election campaign heats up as Aseefa joins polls

Nawaz Sharif Gilgit Baltistan election campaign focuses on development promises ahead of June 7 polls

Gilgit Baltistan – (Web Desk) – Nawaz Sharif Gilgit Baltistan election campaign gathered momentum on Tuesday as political activity intensified across the region ahead of the June 7 Assembly elections. Senior leaders from major political parties arrived in Gilgit-Baltistan to support their candidates and connect with voters.

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif reached Gilgit on a short visit and met party leaders, ticket holders, and workers. During his visit, he introduced the PML-N’s vision for Gilgit-Baltistan and highlighted the importance of development projects in the region.

Meanwhile, First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari arrived in Skardu to address a public rally in constituency GBA-7. PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was also expected to join the gathering. Large numbers of party supporters attended the event as election campaigns continued across the region.

Speaking to party workers in Gilgit, Nawaz Sharif expressed concern over the slow pace of development in Gilgit-Baltistan. He said many infrastructure, energy, and connectivity projects launched during his previous government remained unfinished.

Nawaz stated that better roads, hospitals, hydropower projects, and modern facilities are essential for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan. He also called for the expansion of Gilgit Airport, improved flight operations, and greater investment in tourism and trade.

Addressing the region’s electricity crisis, Nawaz said it was unacceptable for residents to face long hours of load-shedding despite having abundant natural resources. He suggested that solar energy projects could help reduce power shortages.

The PML-N president also promised to support housing schemes, interest-free loans for youth, scholarships for students, and the establishment of a women’s university in the region. He stressed that Gilgit-Baltistan deserves the same development opportunities available in other parts of Pakistan.

With just days remaining before the elections, political parties are increasing their outreach efforts as voters prepare to elect representatives for 24 Assembly seats in Gilgit-Baltistan.
