Government urged to ease burden of rising petrol prices

LAHORE: (Web Desk) – PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif has called for urgent relief measures for the public amid a continued rise in petrol prices, stressing that essential commodities must be made affordable for ordinary citizens.

According to details, a significant meeting was held in Jati Umra between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Nawaz Sharif, where they reviewed the country’s overall political and economic situation. The discussion also included regional developments and governance challenges.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar also participated in the meeting.

During the briefing, Ishaq Dar explained in detail the reasons behind the recent increase in petroleum prices and the broader economic constraints faced by the government. The prime minister also updated Nawaz Sharif on the pricing situation and fiscal pressures.

Nawaz Sharif expressed concern over rising inflation and emphasized that easing public hardship must remain the government’s top priority. He stated that coordinated policies between the federal and Punjab governments are essential to provide relief to low-income groups.

He further stressed that controlling inflation is necessary to stabilize the economy, adding that tough administrative decisions may be required to ensure the affordability of basic goods.

Sources said that the meeting also included consultations on upcoming elections in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Both leaders agreed on formulating an effective electoral strategy and strengthening the campaign structure.

The prime minister also briefed Nawaz Sharif on ongoing election preparations and party-level coordination.

Foreign policy and regional stability were also discussed, including Pakistan’s behind-the-scenes diplomatic efforts aimed at facilitating dialogue between Iran and the United States.
