Mojtaba Khamenei Appoints New Chiefs to Lead Iran’s Military Forces

TEHRAN: (News Desk) – Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has appointed Revolutionary Guards General Ali Abdollahi as the country’s new chief of the armed forces, while naming another senior commander to lead the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Abdollahi previously headed Khatam al-Anbiya, Iran’s central military command responsible for coordinating operations among the country’s armed forces.

A statement published on Khamenei’s official website said Major General Ali Abdollahi had been appointed chief of staff of the armed forces. It also announced that Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi would take command of the IRGC, with the rank of major general.

The appointments mark Khamenei’s first major military leadership changes since he became Iran’s supreme leader following the death of his father in U.S.-Israeli strikes during the Middle East conflict.

Abdollahi has taken a hardline position during the war and previously issued warnings to countries in the region. Earlier this month, he cautioned that nations supporting the United States as a defensive shield could become involved in the conflict.

The latest appointments underscore Khamenei’s effort to establish his authority over Iran’s military leadership as tensions across the region remain high.
