Mbappé’s Brace Sends Real Madrid Top of LaLiga with 2-1 Victory Over Villarreal

Next up for Real Madrid is a crucial match against third-placed Atletico Madrid on Sunday.

Villarreal: Real Madrid returned to the summit of LaLiga after a dramatic 2-1 comeback win over Villarreal on Saturday, with Kylian Mbappé scoring both goals for the visitors.

The match saw Villarreal take an early lead in the seventh minute when Alex Baena’s corner was deflected by Aurelien Tchouameni, setting up Juan Foyth for a close-range finish. However, Real Madrid responded quickly, leveling the score just 10 minutes later. Mbappé was in the right place at the right time, pouncing on Brahim Diaz’s blocked shot to score from close range.

In the 23rd minute, Mbappé added his second goal of the match, his 20th of the season, after a well-timed through ball from Lucas Vazquez.

The French forward was denied a potential hat-trick in the second half when an offside flag was raised as he latched onto a pass from Vinicius Jr.

Despite the tough mid-week schedule following their Champions League shootout victory over Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid secured the three points to move top of the LaLiga standings with 60 points, three ahead of second-placed Barcelona, who have a game in hand.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti remarked, “It’s the last time we’ll play a game with less than 72 hours’ rest,” referring to the team’s tight schedule.
