Renowned Religious Scholar Maulana Muhammad Idrees Tarangzai Shot Dead in Targeted Attack
Charsadda – (Web Desk) – Maulana Muhammad Idrees Tarangzai shot dead on Tuesday morning in a brutal targeted attack in the Utmanzai area of Charsadda. Unidentified gunmen opened fire on his vehicle, and a local hospital later confirmed his death. Two police constables on duty were also critically wounded in the attack. The assailants escaped the scene immediately after the shooting.
The murderous attack on the religious scholar Sheikh Muhammad Idrees in the Atmanzai area of Charsadda, his funeral prayers will be offered today, Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at 5:30 pm in his native village of Tarangzai, Charsadda district.
Witnesses say the attack happened on a busy street near Muslim Model School. Video footage from the scene showed a white Honda hatchback with heavy bullet damage and a shattered rear windshield. Large crowds quickly gathered at the site as security forces moved in to secure the area.

Maulana Idrees Tarangzai was a widely respected religious figure, known as Sheikhal Hadith. His death has sent shockwaves across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and beyond.
This is not the first such incident in Charsadda. Back in November 2025, JUI senior leader Maulana Abdul Salam was also gunned down near Hanif Petrol Pump on Mandani-Takht Bhai Road. Unidentified attackers on a motorcycle shot him dead on the spot before fleeing.
Police have launched a full investigation and increased security across the district. No group has claimed responsibility so far.
