Maulana Fazlur Rehman Demands Govt Resignation Over Islamabad Clashes

ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman has called for the resignation of the government in light of the recent unrest in Islamabad following the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest. Speaking to the media in Khanpur, Fazlur Rehman strongly condemned the events that unfolded in the capital, terming them “unfortunate,” and criticized the government’s handling of the protests at D-Chowk.

While addressing questions regarding the possibility of imposing Governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the JUI-F chief dismissed the notion, stating that he was unaware of any such plans. He explained that while the constitution allows for Governor’s rule in specific situations, the current political climate does not support such a move. He added that he does not advocate for increasing tensions between provincial and federal governments.

Fazlur Rehman also expressed his opposition to the idea of banning any political party, making it clear that the judiciary should determine the fate of PTI founder Imran Khan. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a political environment free from external influence and noted that decisions about Pakistan’s future should be made within the country, not dictated by foreign figures like former U.S. President Donald Trump.

Further, Maulana Fazlur Rehman pointed to the delays in the implementation of constitutional amendments, particularly regarding the religious seminaries clause, which has yet to be signed by the president. He warned that his party would continue to push for the signature, signaling that they would not remain silent on this issue.

On the topic of the last general elections, Fazlur Rehman raised concerns about their legitimacy, alleging that they were “managed” and formed contrary to public opinion. His remarks add to the ongoing political discourse, highlighting dissatisfaction with the electoral process and government actions in the aftermath of the Islamabad protests.

Fazlur Rehman’s statements underline the growing tensions within the political landscape of Pakistan, with calls for government accountability and transparency in the handling of protests, political parties, and constitutional reforms.
