Maryam Nawaz Announces Free Electric Bikes for 100,000 Students

LAHORE: Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, provided an important update on Monday regarding the much-anticipated distribution of laptops under the ‘CM Punjab Laptop Scheme’. Speaking at the launch of scholarships in Bahawalpur at Islamia University, Maryam Nawaz highlighted the significance of promoting education and unity, emphasizing that “hatred destroys human beings” and stressing the need for a more inclusive society.

The Chief Minister announced that the first batch of laptops has already arrived and will be distributed soon to deserving students, with special provisions made for top position holders in Matriculation and Intermediate exams, who will receive the laptops along with a guard of honor. As part of the scheme, 2000 laptops will also be allocated to minority students.

In addition to the laptop distribution, Maryam Nawaz shared details of the Punjab government’s initiative to distribute free electric bikes to 100,000 students next year. She further revealed that 27 electric buses have already arrived at Karachi port, with 500 more buses ordered to facilitate student transportation.

A total of 3011 students from Bahawalpur have been awarded scholarships worth Rs 177.2 million, further cementing the government’s commitment to supporting education across the province.

Earlier in November, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had directed authorities to ensure that the laptops would be distributed within 90 days, underlining the importance of empowering students with the tools necessary for academic success. The laptops being distributed under the scheme will be the latest Core i7, 13th generation models.

Moreover, scholarships will be granted to students from 30,000 government institutions and 10,000 private educational institutions across Punjab, with a special focus on female students, 18,000 of whom will benefit from the Chief Minister’s Hon’ble Scholarship Programme.

This initiative is part of the Punjab government’s broader efforts to enhance educational opportunities, foster growth, and bridge social divides by investing in the province’s future leaders.
