President Muizzu Announces Extended Eid Holidays, Government Offices Reopen April

Malé: The government of the Maldives, under the directive of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, has announced an extended public holiday for the entire week of Eid al-Fitr, allowing citizens ample time to celebrate the holy festival with their families.

According to a statement issued by the President’s Office, if the Ministry of Islamic Affairs declares Shawwal 1 on March 31, 2025, the government holidays will run from March 31 to April 3, 2025. However, if Eid al-Fitr falls on March 30, the public holidays will be adjusted to March 30, 31, and April 1. Regardless of the official date of Eid, the president has ensured that the holidays will extend until April 3, giving employees an uninterrupted period for celebration.

In his announcement, President Muizzu emphasized that the break will be followed by the weekend (Friday and Saturday), and government offices will reopen on April 6, 2025. This initiative aims to provide citizens with a longer period for religious observance and family gatherings during Eid al-Fitr.

Additionally, in line with the President’s annual policy, the government will close from March 20 for the last 10 days of Ramadan. This break is meant to promote Islamic practices and allow the public to focus on their religious duties during the holy month.

Despite the extended holidays, the President assured that essential government services will continue uninterrupted during the break.
