LHC Partially Suspends Verdict Against Meesha Shafi

Meesha Shafi Gets Partial Relief in Defamation Case Appeal

LAHORE: (Web Desk) – The Lahore High Court has conditionally suspended a trial court’s decision directing singer Meesha Shafi to pay Rs5 million in damages in a defamation case filed by Ali Zafar.

The case was heard by Justice Ahmad Nadeem Arshad, where Meesha Shafi’s counsel Advocate Saqib Jillani presented arguments on her behalf. However, the court declined her request to completely suspend the lower court’s verdict.

During the proceedings, the judge noted that the portion of the trial court’s ruling restraining Meesha Shafi from repeating allegations of sexual harassment against Ali Zafar would remain intact, stating that such allegations cannot be freely reiterated.

In her appeal, Meesha Shafi contended that the sessions court had upheld Ali Zafar’s claim and ordered her to pay Rs5 million in damages, which she is now challenging before the high court.

The court directed her to deposit half of the penalty amount and provide a surety bond for the remaining sum. Additionally, a notice has been issued to Ali Zafar, seeking his response on the appeal.

Earlier, the sessions court had ruled in favor of Ali Zafar, awarding him damages of Rs5 million in the defamation case.
