Lahore Tribunal Dismisses Yasmin Rashid’s NA-130 Challenge

Dr Yasmin Rashid claimed that the election outcome was manipulated in favor of the PML-N supremo.

ISLAMABAD: An Election Tribunal in Lahore on Tuesday dismissed a petition filed by PTI senior leader Dr Yasmin Rashid challenging the notification confirming PML-N President Nawaz Sharif’s victory from NA-130 in the 2024 general elections.

The tribunal, presided over by Judge Rana Zahid Mahmood, declared the petition inadmissible, noting objections regarding its late filing. Barrister Asadullah Advocate represented Nawaz Sharif and argued against the petition.

Dr Yasmin Rashid, a former Punjab health minister under Imran Khan’s government, had approached the tribunal on April 16, 2025, seeking to nullify Nawaz Sharif’s win in the February 8, 2024 elections. The petition, filed through her lawyers Ahmed Awais and Rana Mudassar, alleged that the Election Commission of Pakistan violated electoral laws by issuing the notification of Nawaz Sharif’s victory.

During the 2024 general elections, Dr Rashid contested NA-130 (Lahore-XIV) but was defeated, securing 104,485 votes against Nawaz Sharif’s 171,024. She claimed that the election outcome was manipulated in favor of the PML-N supremo.

Dr Yasmin Rashid is currently incarcerated in multiple cases linked to the May 9, 2023, riots, during which PTI supporters targeted military installations following the arrest of Imran Khan.
