KP Govt Seeks FIR Against Islamabad Police Chief Over October 5 Raid

Peshawar:The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has officially submitted an application to the Sharqi Police Station in Peshawar, requesting the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) against Islamabad Police Inspector General (IG) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi. This move comes in response to the raid conducted by the Islamabad police and Rangers on the KP House in Islamabad on October 5, 2024, during a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest.

The raid targeted the KP House where KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and his aides were staying at the time, as part of the ongoing PTI protest in the capital. The raid resulted in significant damage, estimated at Rs 9 million, with allegations that police also seized Rs 6 million in cash from the offices of the KP House.

In a statement to the provincial assembly, Munir Hussain Laghmani, the chairman of the special committee tasked with investigating the raid, confirmed that the preliminary report had been submitted to the KP Assembly Secretariat. The report indicated that the police action had not only caused financial losses but also led to injuries among PTI workers protesting at D-Chowk.

The KP government has tasked the administration department’s state officer with filing the FIR against IG Rizvi and around 600 police officials involved in the raid. The application mentions that the police action was intended to arrest Gandapur as part of the broader crackdown on PTI protests.

In a previous announcement, Gandapur had vowed to file an FIR against the Islamabad police chief and the other officials involved, accusing them of breaching the KP House and violating the rights of PTI supporters. The KP government has also indicated that it will press for legal action under the relevant sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

This development marks an escalation in the ongoing tensions between the federal and provincial governments, as both sides prepare for further legal proceedings.
