North Korea – (Web Desk) – At a major congress of North Korea’s ruling party, leader Kim Jong Un was re-elected to the party’s highest position, with officials praising his role in boosting the country’s military strength.
According to a report by the state-run Korean Central News Agency, Kim may be preparing to significantly expand the nation’s nuclear weapons program.
He was chosen again as general secretary with what the agency described as full support and unity from thousands of delegates attending the meeting.
The congress also introduced major leadership changes, as several elderly officials were replaced with younger figures, signaling a shift toward a new generation of leadership.

One of the most notable replacements was the 76-year-old head of parliament in Pyongyang, who was removed from the party’s powerful 138-member Central Committee.
The key party congress, which began on Thursday, is a five-yearly event of the ruling party in which the country’s leadership outlines the political and military goals for the next five years.
The new developments come amid the deepening ties between Pyongyang and Moscow. North Korea has also sent troops to fight alongside Russian forces in the war in Ukraine.
