KGC Thanks Trump for Averting Nuclear Crisis in South Asia
Kashmiris Demand Freedom, Not Geopolitical Manipulation: KGC
New York – The Kashmir Global Council (KGC) has expressed deep gratitude to former U.S. President Donald J. Trump for his intervention in de-escalating the recent military tensions between India and Pakistan, which had brought the two nuclear-armed nations to the brink of war.
In an official statement, Farooq Siddiqi, President of the KGC, praised Trump’s timely diplomatic efforts, stating that his involvement was “critical in preventing a full-scale conflict” and in restoring calm to a highly volatile situation.
“On behalf of the people of Jammu & Kashmir, I extend our deepest gratitude to President Trump. His mediation helped pull the region back from the edge of a nuclear catastrophe,” Siddiqi said.
The Council also offered condolences to the victims on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC), acknowledging the human cost of conflict, particularly among civilians. “Their suffering is a stark reminder of the urgency to find a just and lasting peace,” the statement read.
However, the KGC cautioned the international community against falling into what it called a “cycle of empty bilateralism”—a pattern where India, under the guise of the Shimla Agreement, engages in temporary diplomacy only to evade international scrutiny, delay progress, and ultimately exclude Kashmiris from the peace process.
“This pattern has repeated through decades—from the Swaran Singh–Bhutto talks, the Tashkent and Shimla Accords, the Lahore Declaration, to the Musharraf era. Each time, Kashmiris were sidelined, and talks failed,” Siddiqi said.
The Council urged both Pakistan and the global community to ensure that any future dialogue must include the voices of the Kashmiri people as legitimate stakeholders. Without their representation and international oversight, Siddiqi argued, no peace process would be sustainable or credible.

KGC called on President Trump, should he continue his engagement, to pursue a comprehensive and inclusive solution that would not only defuse tensions but also bring justice and self-determination to the people of Kashmir.
“Kashmiris are not pawns in a geopolitical chessboard,” Siddiqi emphasized. “We are a people with dreams, rights, and a vision for our own future—free, dignified, and sovereign.”
The statement concluded with an appeal to the world’s conscience, urging global powers to uphold the values of freedom, dignity, and human rights in their approach to the Kashmir conflict.
