ISLAMABAD: Jay Shah has officially assumed the role of Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), taking over from Greg Barclay, who held the position since November 2020. Shah, who was elected unopposed, began his tenure today (Sunday).
In his first statement as ICC Chairman, Shah outlined his key priorities, focusing on harnessing the upcoming inclusion of cricket in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games to expand the sport’s global reach. He also emphasized the importance of accelerating the growth of women’s cricket.
“I am honored to take on the role of ICC Chair and grateful for the support and trust of the ICC Directors and Member Boards,” Shah said. “This is an exciting time for the sport as we prepare for the LA28 Olympic Games and work to make cricket more inclusive and engaging for fans worldwide.”

Shah highlighted that the sport is at a critical juncture, with multiple formats coexisting, and stressed the need to further advance women’s cricket globally. “Cricket holds immense potential, and I look forward to working closely with the ICC team and Member countries to seize these opportunities and take the sport to new heights,” he added.
Shah’s appointment marks a new chapter in ICC leadership, with a strong focus on global expansion and inclusion.
