KARACHI: (Showbiz Desk) – Pakistani actor and filmmaker Jamal Shah has responded to recent allegations of domestic violence made by his former wife, actress and artist Faryal Gohar, offering his first detailed public comments on the matter.
In a statement shared on X, Jamal said he had deliberately avoided speaking negatively about Faryal in public despite their past marriage and subsequent separation.
Jamal said he had never spoken badly about Faryal in any interview and explained that he had also tried to remain respectful when the two appeared on the same television programme.
He said television host Nida Yasir invited him to her programme without initially informing him that Faryal would also be appearing. After learning about her participation shortly before the recording, Jamal said he felt it would be inappropriate to withdraw from the programme.
According to Jamal, he remained reserved during the appearance and later declined to approve a proposed television serial based on his and Faryal’s lives.
He said a channel had approached him regarding the project and that he had initially indicated he would consider it after reviewing the script. However, he now does not want his personal story turned into a commercial television production.
Reflecting on his relationship with Faryal, Jamal said their marriage lasted five years and maintained that he has neither regret nor bitterness over the relationship.
He described their separation as amicable and said both sides had intentionally avoided discussing the details of their divorce publicly for many years.
Jamal also expressed goodwill towards his former wife, saying his prayers remain with her and wishing happiness for her and her family.
The actor also spoke positively about his present family life, saying he is grateful for his current wife, whom he described as highly capable and balanced, and their three children.
Jamal’s comments come after Faryal Gohar recently spoke about her marriage during a television appearance and made serious allegations of domestic violence.
Faryal alleged that violence during the marriage contributed to the loss of a twin pregnancy. She also recalled an incident in which a doctor noticed injuries and expressed concern about the condition of her marriage.
Her comments generated considerable discussion on social media, prompting renewed public interest in the former couple’s relationship.
Jamal’s latest statement presents his perspective on the matter. Faryal’s allegations remain allegations, while Jamal has emphasized that he has not publicly spoken against her and has described their separation as civil.
