Islamabad Police Announce Traffic Plan for Independence Day Celebrations

Islamabad – (Staff Reporter/Web Desk) – Islamabad traffic plan for Independence Day has been released by Islamabad Traffic Police, and it brings major changes for anyone driving through the city this week. The plan covers celebrations at the Victory Monument in H-8, and it will affect commuters from August 12 to August 14.

Heavy vehicles will not be allowed to enter Islamabad during this period. The ban starts at midnight on August 12 and stays in place until midnight on August 14.

Several important roads will also be closed for light traffic near the event site. This includes both sides of the Expressway, Faisal Avenue, and the stretch from Koral Chowk to Khayaban Chowk.

Drivers coming from Rawat and Koral are asked to take a different path. They can use Khanna Pul, Lehtrar Road, Park Road, Rawal Dam Chowk, Murree Road, Serena Hotel, Soharwardi Road, and Jinnah Avenue instead.

People heading from Khayaban Chowk toward Koral have other options too. Jinnah Avenue, Ninth Avenue, Double Road, Murree Road, Rawal Road, and Old Airport Road will keep traffic moving.

The Faizabad Interchange, Rawal Dam, and parts of the Expressway will also see limits on movement. Travelers between Rawalpindi and Islamabad should plan to use Ninth Avenue, Jinnah Avenue, or Murree Road via Rawal Dam Chowk.

Roads near Garden Flyover, I-8, Faiz Ahmed Faiz Road, Mir Chakar Road, the Judicial Academy, and Mir Zafarullah Road will stay shut. These roads lead toward the Victory Monument, so access will be tightly controlled.

Residents living in I-8 and H-8 have been given clear guidance. Toward Islamabad, they can use I-8 Markaz, Ninth Avenue, and Jinnah Avenue. Toward Rawalpindi, the better route is Ninth Avenue, IJP Road, Double Road, and Murree Road.

Garden Shakarparian will remain closed in the direction of I-8 and Faisal Avenue. Drivers can switch to Seventh Avenue, Jinnah Avenue, or Ninth Avenue without much trouble.

At Chand Tara T-Cross, the road toward Shakarparian will also be off-limits. Seventh Avenue and Murree Road are the suggested alternatives here.

Peshawar Road, on both sides toward Kuri Road Chowk and Srinagar Highway, will be closed as well. Anyone coming from Islamabad Chowk via Srinagar Highway should use Peshawar Mor Flyover, Ninth Avenue, Jinnah Avenue, or Margalla Road.

Commuters from Murree and Bhara Kahu heading into Islamabad can rely on Murree Road, Serena Hotel, Soharwardi Road, and Jinnah Avenue. Going the other way, from Bhara Kahu, Murree, or Islamabad toward Rawalpindi, the route runs through Rawal Dam Chowk, Park Road, Captain Naeem Tufail Shaheed Chowk, Lehtrar Road, Khanna, and Expressway.

If you’re heading to Islamabad International Airport during these two days, plan ahead. Margalla Road, Jinnah Avenue, Peshawar Mor Flyover, Srinagar Highway, and Iran Avenue will keep you on track without major delays.

With so many roads affected, it’s best to check your route before leaving home. Give yourself extra time, and follow the traffic police updates for any last-minute changes.
