Islamabad campaign identifies 3,646 out-of-school children for enrollment

“No Child Left Behind” campaign achieves early success in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – Islamabad is witnessing a major stride in the “No Child Left Behind” campaign, as the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training reports early success from its “Carpet Coverage” initiative.

After several days of intensive field operations across multiple Union Councils, authorities have identified 3,646 out-of-school children (OOSC), according to the Non-Formal Education Management Information System. The findings show an almost equal gender distribution, with 1,862 boys (51%) and 1,784 girls (49%) classified as “identified but not yet enrolled.”

The identification process was a collaborative effort involving several organizations. The National Commission for Human Development led the efforts, identifying 2,877 children. Other contributors included JJT (433 children), the National Education Foundation (157), BECS (85), Muslim Hands (78), and Sunbeams (37). These figures serve as a baseline for targeted interventions to integrate these children into formal and non-formal educational programs.

Federal Education Secretary Nadeem Mahbub emphasized that this achievement is part of a broader three-year rolling plan, with an initial goal of enrolling 25,000 children during its first phase. While the strategy focuses on placement in FDE-run government schools, community schools and partnerships with NGOs and the private sector will ensure that children in underserved areas also gain access to education. This initiative underlines the ministry’s commitment to ensuring that no child in the capital is denied their fundamental right to learn.
