IRGC Bodies Mehran Border: Iran Receives Guards Killed in US-Saudi Strikes

Iran has confirmed that the IRGC bodies Mehran border crossing was used to bring home five Revolutionary Guards members killed earlier this week. State media shared the news on Friday, saying the remains entered the country through the western Ilam province.

The fighters died during joint American and Saudi strikes on positions inside Iraq. These strikes hit sites tied to the Hashed al-Shaabi, a large Iraqi military alliance made up of several Iran-backed groups.

According to reports, the attacks killed at least twenty fighters in total. Five of those killed were Iranian nationals linked to the Revolutionary Guards.

Washington and Riyadh said the strikes were carried out in response to recent attacks on Saudi Arabia. Officials from both countries said the action targeted militants believed responsible for recent threats against the kingdom.

The Revolutionary Guards’ Quds Force usually handles Iran’s military activity outside its own borders. Most Guards members killed abroad tend to belong to this branch.

This is not the first time such a loss has happened. Back in 2020, a US strike near Baghdad killed the Quds Force’s top commander, Qasem Soleimani. That same strike also killed a senior Hashed al-Shaabi leader.

Images from Baghdad this week showed mourners carrying coffins wrapped in Iranian flags during funeral services. Local groups called the strikes a serious escalation and said such actions threaten peace in the wider region.

Iraqi officials have also spoken out. They stressed that the country’s land should not be used as a base for attacks against neighboring nations. A new security plan is reportedly being prepared to tighten control across Iraqi territory.

Tensions in the region remain high. Pro-Iran groups have already warned that some form of response is likely. This raises concern that more strikes or attacks could follow in the coming days.

The wider conflict between the US and Iran has now stretched on for several months. What began as a short military standoff has slowly grown into a longer and more complex regional crisis.
