Iran Offers Mediation as Pakistan-Afghanistan Tensions Escalate

“The recent border tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan are worrying,” said the spokesperson.

TEHRAN – Iran has expressed deep concern over the recent border tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, offering to mediate between the two neighboring countries to help de-escalate the situation.

In a statement issued by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani (Ismail Baghaei), Tehran emphasized the importance of respecting the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations. He urged both Islamabad and Kabul to engage in immediate dialogue to resolve their differences peacefully.

“The recent border tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan are worrying,” said the spokesperson. “We believe all nations must respect each other’s territorial integrity. Iran stands ready to assist in reducing tensions and facilitating talks between its neighbors.”

The offer comes after multiple clashes were reported along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, with Pakistani forces retaliating strongly to unprovoked firing from the Afghan side. The skirmishes resulted in the destruction of several Afghan posts and the reported death of multiple Afghan soldiers.
