Iqbal Afridi Suspended From National Assembly

PTI's Iqbal Afridi Suspended for Full Budget Session Over Misconduct

PTI  – (Web Desk) – PTI lawmaker Iqbal Afridi suspended National Assembly budget session after Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq accused him of raising his hand against assembly staff, misbehaving with the DG Media, and acting rudely toward police personnel inside the House.

The Speaker directed the Sergeant-at-Arms to remove Afridi from the chamber. He made it clear that such behaviour was completely unacceptable from any elected member.

A motion was moved by Farah Naz Akbar seeking Afridi’s suspension. The House approved it by a majority vote.

Speaker Sadiq announced that Afridi would receive no allowances during the suspension period. He would also not get any TA/DA for the entire budget session.

“Leave the House yourself. If you do not leave, security will take you out,” the Speaker told Afridi. He eventually left on his own.

Earlier in the session, Afridi repeatedly pointed out the quorum. The first count found it incomplete, which led to a brief adjournment. After the quorum was restored and the session resumed, Afridi raised the issue again. The Speaker reacted sharply, saying a quorum cannot be pointed out every half hour.

Meanwhile, the National Assembly also passed the Pakistan Telecommunication Re-Organisation Amendment Bill 2025. IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja presented the bill and later explained an amendment related to the retirement age of an appellate tribunal judge.

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar, speaking to media, said the upcoming budget would not bring any relief to the public. He called it a budget built on fake figures and said people were already burdened by inflation and high utility bills.
