Interior Minister Assures Meeting for Imran Khan Amid Security Concerns

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Advocates for Access to Khan and Personal Physician

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has reportedly assured Barrister Gohar, the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), that a meeting with Imran Khan will be arranged in Adiala Jail on Monday, according to sources. However, a spokesperson from the ministry clarified that the minister has merely indicated that the request will be “considered.”

Sources suggest that the meeting could potentially take place later on Monday within the jail premises.

On the same day, Naqvi and Gohar held a phone conversation in which Gohar requested the arrangement of a meeting with Imran Khan. He also asked for Khan’s personal physician to be permitted access to him while in custody.

A spokesperson for the Interior Ministry confirmed the phone call but emphasized that Naqvi only indicated that the request would be considered.

The spokesperson further noted that allowing meetings specifically for Imran Khan could be seen as preferential treatment.

Currently, Imran Khan is detained in Adiala Jail along with his wife, Bushra Bibi. However, the jail authorities have imposed a general ban on inmate meetings until October 18, citing security concerns related to the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit in Islamabad.
