Inter Exams Delayed Due to Administrative Issues

Unavailability of examination centers, as many are currently being used for matriculation exams.

ISLAMABAD: The annual Intermediate examinations for 2025 have been delayed, and the Pre-Engineering, Pre-Medical, and General Science exams—originally scheduled to begin on April 28—are now expected to start from May 6 or later. This delay will also affect the second phase of exams for Commerce and Arts groups.

Key Reasons for the Delay:

  • Unavailability of examination centers, as many are currently being used for matriculation exams.

  • Revisions in the results of first-year students due to the application of grace marks.

  • The absence of appointed chairpersons for the Karachi and Hyderabad education boards has stalled approval processes for exam schedules and center arrangements.

A senior official from the Department of Universities and Boards informed Express that matric exams in Karachi will continue until May 2. Since many intermediate exam centers overlap with matric centers, they cannot be converted for intermediate use until matric exams are completed.

The source added that the absence of chairpersons in Karachi and Hyderabad for over a month has delayed administrative decisions, including the finalization of exam schedules and the setup of examination centers.

Initially, according to decisions made by the Education Department’s Steering Committee, matric exams in Sindh were scheduled for March 15 and intermediate exams for April 8. However, complaints from private school associations citing student difficulties in taking exams during Ramadan led to a revision. The committee then rescheduled matric exams to April 8 (after Eid) and intermediate exams to April 28.
