India leads Group 1 in Super 8 points table with Afghanistan win

BRIDGETOWN: India defeated Afghanistan by 47 runs at the Kensington Oval, Barbados in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 stage on Thursday.

Indian batters set a target of 182 runs, which Afghanistan failed to chase, managing only 134 runs in turn.

India’s bowling attack was led by Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Kuldeep Yadav. The bowlers restricted Afghanistan’s scoring opportunities to a mere 134 runs.

Jasprit Bumrah stood out by taking three wickets in four overs, while conceding only 7 runs.

Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav score of 53 runs off 28 balls earned him the Player of the Match award.

With this win, India is at top of the Group 1 of the Super 8 points table, with Afghanistan at the second position with 0 points. Australia and Bangladesh are yet to play their matches.

The schedule for the remaining Super 8 matches includes key clashes such as Australia versus Bangladesh, England versus South Africa, and USA versus West Indies.
