IHC Welcomes Three New Judges with Gazette Notification Issued

Two Additional Judges Appointed to Islamabad High Court

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has officially received three new judges, following a gazette notification issued on Sunday after receiving approval from President Asif Ali Zardari.

The Gazette notification, issued by the Establishment Division, announced that Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar has been transferred from the Lahore High Court (LHC) to the IHC. Additionally, Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro from the Sindh High Court (SHC) and Justice Muhammad Asif from the Balochistan High Court have also been transferred to the Islamabad High Court.

This development comes amid ongoing discussions within the IHC, where judges had raised concerns about the appointment of the Chief Justice (CJ) of the court. In a letter sent to President Zardari and Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Yahya Afridi, the IHC judges recommended that the new Chief Justice of the IHC be selected from among its own senior judges rather than bringing in a judge from another high court. The judges also called for a clear justification for appointing a judge from a different high court.

The letter, which was copied to the Chief Justices of both the Sindh and Lahore High Courts, was signed by multiple IHC judges, including Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani.

Earlier in January, the Ministry of Law and Justice appointed two additional judges to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) after receiving the approval of President Zardari. The new appointees, Muhammad Azam Khan and Inaam Ameen Minhas, were notified as additional judges following meetings of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan held on January 17 to consider these nominations.

This series of appointments continues to shape the future of the IHC as it expands and strengthens its judiciary.
