IESCO Cracks Down on Power Theft, Imposes Fines Totaling Millions

IESCO Chief Commends Efforts in Eradicating Power Theft.

Islamabad: The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) is making significant strides in its campaign against power theft, with recent reports indicating a crackdown resulting in the imposition of fines amounting to millions of rupees. According to IESCO’s spokesman, a total of 12707 power pilferers have been apprehended across the IESCO region, with fines totaling a staggering 539.23 million rupees.

The crackdown, which began on September 7, 2023, has seen detection teams working tirelessly across all operational circles of IESCO, receiving full support from government ministries, provincial administrations, and law enforcement agencies. In the month of February 2024 alone, 311 power pilferers were apprehended, leading to fines of 22.9 million rupees being charged, while 28 electricity thieves were arrested by the police.

Dr. Muhammad Amjad Khan, Chief of IESCO, commended the efforts of the detection teams and emphasized the company’s commitment to eradicating power theft. He highlighted the significant decrease in power theft cases and company line losses, leading to an increase in company revenue. Dr. Khan assured that the anti-power theft campaign will continue relentlessly, with no compromises made in this regard.

In addition to the crackdown on power theft, IESCO also announced temporary power suspension schedules for March 4, 2024, due to system maintenance and development work. The scheduled power outages will affect various areas in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad. However, IESCO management assured customers that if the work is completed ahead of schedule, power supply could be restored earlier than anticipated.

The combined efforts of IESCO in cracking down on power theft and ensuring system maintenance reflect the company’s commitment to providing reliable and efficient electricity services to its valued customers.
