ISLAMABAD: Honda has recently launched the third generation of its Amaze compact sedan in India and is now setting its sights on expanding its model lineup with an ambitious plan to release three new vehicles by the 2026-2027 financial year. The carmaker aims to introduce models featuring electric and hybrid powertrains, utilizing its e:HEV technology and a new Honda Electric badge.
Takuya Tsumura, President and CEO of Honda Cars India, shared the company’s vision for the future, emphasizing its dual commitment to both internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and electrified powertrains. While Honda continues to invest in conventional ICE vehicles, it is shifting its focus towards hybrid and fully electric vehicles to adapt to changing market trends.
Details of the upcoming models will be revealed as the plan unfolds, but it is clear that Honda aims to strengthen its presence in India’s rapidly growing electric vehicle market. At present, Honda’s Indian lineup consists of three models: two sedans and an SUV. Notably, the Honda City sedan offers a hybrid powertrain, though it has not met the brand’s expectations in terms of sales success.
One of the new electric models could potentially be based on the Honda Elevate, a currently available SUV in the Indian market. As competition in the electric vehicle space intensifies, with brands like Tata Motors, MG Motor, and Mahindra already making significant strides, Honda’s upcoming models are expected to play a key role in boosting its standing in the Indian automotive market.
