Haris Rauf Fined for Heated Argument With England’s Will Jacks
Pakistan pacer gets a demerit point, while England lose 15 percent of their match fee for a slow over-rate in the Tri Series game.
Haris Rauf – (Staff Reporter/Web Desk) – Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf fined 20 percent of his match fee by the ICC. The penalty came after he broke the Code of Conduct in the Tri Series ODI against England in Lahore on Sunday.
The ICC said Haris breached Article 2.20 of its Code of Conduct. This rule covers conduct that goes against the spirit of the game. It is a Level 1 offence.
The incident happened at the end of the 46th over of Pakistan’s innings. Haris was at the non-striker’s end. He appealed for a wide and then started arguing with England all-rounder Will Jacks.
During the argument, Haris raised his bat. Umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid warned him to stop. However, Haris kept arguing. He brushed past the umpire and walked towards Jacks.
One demerit point has also been added to his record. This was his third offence in 24 months. As a result, his total has now reached five demerit points.
Haris accepted the charge and the punishment. The sanction was proposed by Jeff Crowe of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. Because of this, no formal hearing was needed.
England were also punished in the same game. They were fined 15 percent of their match fee because they were three overs short after time allowances. Under Article 2.22, players lose five percent of their match fee for every over their team fails to bowl in time.
England captain Harry Brook admitted the offence and accepted the penalty. He also did not need a hearing.
The charges were laid by on-field umpires Rashid Riaz and Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid. Third umpire Wayne Knights and fourth umpire Nassir Hussain also took part in the charge.
