Haniyeh’s assassination “will not go unpunished”: Hamas official

Tehran(Web Desk);Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was killed in Iran’s Tehran, the Palestinian militant group Hamas said in a statement on Wednesday.

In a statement, the Islamist faction mourned the death of Haniyeh, who it said was killed in “a treacherous Zionist raid on his residence in Tehran”.

Earlier, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said he had been targeted in his residence along with an Iranian bodyguard. It said he had been in Iran to attend the inauguration of President Masoud Pezeshkian. It said it was investigating the circumstances of the “incident”.

Iran’s state-run media reports Haniyeh targeted via ‘airborne projectile’

Iran’s state-run news agency IRNA has said that Hamas Chief Ismael Haniyeh was attacked via an air-borne guided projectile that struck a house in Tehran at around 2am local time, CNN reported.

The Hamas chief, as per state-affiliated Fars news, was staying at a residence for veterans in north Tehran.

Ismail Haniyeh was the exiled political chief of the group and had spent much of his time in recent years in Qatar. During the Israel-Gaza war he had acted as a negotiator in the ceasefire talks and liased with Hamas’s main ally, Iran.

Israel has yet to make any comment on Ismail Haniyeh’s killing but in its statement Hamas accused it of responsibility.

“The blood of martyr Ismail Haniyeh will never go in vain. The martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran will strengthen the relationship between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Palestinian people and resistance organizations,” said the spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran will strengthen the deep and unbreakable relationship between the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

Meanwhile, Iran has called a meeting of its high-level security leadership over the assassination of the Hamas leader. Iran’s Supreme National Security Council will decide about responding to the killing in Tehran. Senior commanders of the Revolutionary Guards will also participate in the meeting.

Palestinian president strongly condemns,

After the martyrdom of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, Palestinian groups have announced a strike and mass demonstrations, reported a British news agency. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas strongly condemned Haniyeh’s murder.

“The killing of Ismail Haniyeh is a cowardly act and a dangerous development,” Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said. “The Palestinian people should remain united against Israel, and act with patience and perseverance.”

Unacceptable political murder: Russia,

“This is an absolutely unacceptable political murder, and it will lead to further escalation of tensions,” said Deputy Russian Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov.

 Terrorist crime’, Yemen’s Houthi says

“Targeting Ismail Haniyeh is a heinous terrorist crime and a flagrant violation of laws and ideal values,” said Mohammed Ali Al-Houthi, the head of Yemen’s Houthi Supreme Revolutionary Committee.

“We offer our condolences to the Palestinian people who have given hundreds of thousands of martyrs like Haniyeh in order to live in peace in their own homeland, under the roof of their own state.

“It has been revealed once again that the Netanyahu Government has no intention of achieving peace.

“This attack also aims to spread the war in Gaza to a regional level. If the international community does not take action to stop Israel, our region will face much greater conflicts,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statemen

Ex-IRGC chief says Israel will ‘pay a great price’ 

Webdesk;Mohsen Rezaei, member of the Expediency Council and former Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander-in-chief, says Israel will “pay a great price” for Haniyeh’s assassination,

“I offer my condolences for the martyrdom of the free man, believer and proud leader of the Palestinian nation, Ismail Haniyeh…,” he said.

“This martyrdom is more proof of the despicableness of the criminal gang of Tel Aviv, from the killing of Palestinian women, children and elderly and trampling human rights to violating the legal boundaries of countries and international laws in the assassination of the popular leaders of nations.

“How stupid are they who think that this kind of despicable display of power can compensate for their weakness and helplessness in the heroic confrontation of the brave and undefeatable children of Palestine. Israel will pay a great price,” he said.

Haniyeh’s killing to boost ‘resistance fighters’ resolve: Hezbollah

 Web Desk;Hezbollah says the killing of Haniyeh will embolden the “determination and stubbornness” of “resistance fighters” and will make “their resolve stronger” in fighting against Israel,.

In a statement posted on Telegram, the Iran-backed armed group also sent its condolences to the family of the Hamas leader.

“We in Hezbollah share with our dear brothers in the Hamas movement all the feelings of pain over the loss of this great leader, the feelings of anger at the enemy’s crimes, the feelings of pride that the leaders in our movements are leading their people and their mujahideen to martyrdom,” read the message.

Israeli minister celebrates,

Israel’s Minister of Heritage Amichay Eliyahu said the killing of the Hamas leader “makes the world a little better”,

“No mercy for these mortals,” Eliyahu wrote in a post on X.

“The iron hand that will strike them, is the one that will bring peace and a little comfort and strengthen our ability to live in peace with those who desire peace,” he said.
