Halle Berry Opens Up About Daughter Starting College

LOS ANGELES: (Showbiz Desk) –  Hollywood actress Halle Berry has opened up about the mix of pride and concern she feels as her 18-year-old daughter, Nahla Ariela Aubry, begins college away from home.

Berry, who shares Nahla with her former partner Gabriel Aubry, also has a 12-year-old son, Maceo Robert Martinez, with her ex-husband Olivier Martinez.

Speaking at the Create & Cultivate Festival, Berry told People that watching her daughter start college has been an emotional experience and admitted that the transition is “a little worrisome.”

Berry said Nahla is the first of her children to leave home for college, making the milestone particularly emotional for her as a mother.

The actress said she feels proud of her daughter but also has some fears now that Nahla is living independently in another state. She added that she and Nahla’s father hope they have raised her well and that she will make good decisions while making the most of her college experience.

Meanwhile, Berry revealed that her younger son has been experiencing mixed feelings about his sister’s absence. Although Maceo now feels somewhat like an only child, he has also been enjoying some of the perks of having Nahla away.

Berry said Maceo has been sleeping in his older sister’s bed and no longer has to compromise with her over everyday choices, including what the family will have for dinner.

Despite enjoying some newfound independence, Berry said her son still finds it “weird” not having his sister around.

The actress added that the entire family remains supportive of Nahla and is extremely proud of her as she begins this new chapter of her life.
