Haaland Surpasses Ibrahimovic as Nordic International Top Scorer

OSLO: (Sports Desk)  – Erling Haaland reached another landmark in his international career on Thursday, scoring twice as Norway defeated Denmark 3-2 in the Nations League to become the highest-scoring Nordic men’s player in international football history.

The Manchester City striker has now scored 64 goals in 56 appearances for Norway, moving past Sweden legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who finished his international career with 62 goals in 122 matches.

Haaland completed his brace in the 74th minute, helping Norway secure their first competitive victory over Denmark.

Norway coach Stale Solbakken praised the striker’s extraordinary finishing ability, describing his goalscoring instinct as something that cannot simply be taught.

Haaland, who made his senior international debut in 2019, is averaging more than one goal per international appearance, highlighting his remarkable scoring record for Norway.

Norwegian midfielder Sander Berge said Haaland’s goals had become almost routine but acknowledged the significance of the latest milestone.

The 26-year-old forward has also moved beyond Brazilian great Ronaldo, who scored 62 international goals for Brazil before retiring in 2011.

However, Haaland has yet to claim the overall Nordic international scoring record. Former Sweden women’s striker Lotta Schelin remains ahead with 88 goals.

Haaland’s finishing was the main talking point in Denmark, with local analysts highlighting his decisive contribution to Norway’s victory.

Danish striker Rasmus Højlund also acknowledged the difficulty of defending against Haaland, saying the Norwegian consistently finds ways to reach the goal despite the attention placed on him.

Denmark will have an opportunity to respond when the two teams meet again in the final matchday of the Nations League group stage on November 17.
