Federal Government Urges Provinces to Share Petroleum Subsidy Burden
Islamabad: (Web Desk) – The federal government has called on provinces to share the financial burden of subsidies on petroleum products, according to sources.
A high-level meeting chaired by Shehbaz Sharif brought together all four provincial chief ministers, along with the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan and the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir. Asim Munir was also in attendance.
During the meeting, participants reviewed the potential energy crisis amid ongoing regional tensions. Officials were briefed on the government’s austerity drive and proposed energy-saving measures aimed at managing resources more efficiently.

Key discussions focused on petroleum pricing, where the federal government urged provinces to contribute toward subsidies to ease fiscal pressure. The option of transferring the full impact of rising fuel prices to consumers was also examined.
Earlier, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari arrived at the Prime Minister’s House alongside Murad Ali Shah. Bilawal held a separate meeting with the prime minister to discuss the evolving situation.
