Govt demands Chief Justice of Pakistan step down

Bilawal wants unconstitutional bench-fixing undone
Islamabad _The federal government has demanded the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial to step down, questioning his impartiality.
The demand was put forward by the Federal Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb in a presser following the meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) held in Islamabad. She contended that the position of the chief just had become controversial and therefore he should step down.
The minister said that the order to conduct elections in 90 days was ‘imposed’ on the government while adding that ‘it was not the issue of elections but judicial facilitation’.
Referring to the note of Justice Athar Minallah, she questioned why the lie was told that the judges had recused themselves. The minister reiterated that the CJP should have formed a full court on the matter as suggested by other judges.
She categorically said that the government cannot implement the decision of a case which was not even maintainable.PMLN Chief Organizer and Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz Sharif in a tweet asked Chief Justice of Pakistan to resign. “No CJ has ever been accused of such misconduct. His tilt towards PTI is glaring. CJP Bandiyal must RESIGN,” Maryam tweets.
“CJP Umar Ata Bandiyal has committed flagrant violations of law & constitution to favour IK/PTI. This blatant abuse of authority has led to an unprecedented revolt-like situation in the SC of Pak. Judges of impeccable repute have raised serious questions on CJP’s conduct & bias,” she added. She sad, “Or the parliament can file the reference. CJP & his favourite judges under question should be asked to step down till the decision. Fairness demands that justice be carried out smoothly & impartially.”
Sharing a hashtag #GoHomeBandiyal Maryam Nawaz said, “ The reference against the CJP has to be filed by the govt/cabinet. Even if the President withholds it, let the world see the evil-nexus & identify the accomplices in crime. It will further cement the fact that they are hand-in-glove with the CJP.“
Meanwhile,
The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) and the Supreme Court (SC) must act immediately to undo unconstitutional bench fixing, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto tweeted on Friday.
“With Justice Minallah’s note, we now have four justices on record. It is clear that CJ’s opinion is the minority judgement. The CJP and & SC must act immediately to undo this unconstitutional bench fixing. This is the only way the dignity of the Supreme Court can be resorted,” reads the PPP chairman’s tweet.
If the CJP fails to protect his post’s prestige, he should let someone take the responsibly of the top judge, he added.
“The three-member bench decision is not worth the paper it is written on. If the CJP cannot get his court in order and remedy this mockery of justice then perhaps he should allow someone else to take the responsibility of CJP.”
