Govt Declares 12 Rabi ul Awal Holiday on August 26

Cabinet Division notifies nationwide off day as Sindh govt follows suit ahead of Eid Milad un Nabi

Pakistan – (Staff Resporter/Web Desk) – Pakistan will observe a 12 Rabi ul Awal holiday on Wednesday, August 26, the federal government confirmed on Friday. The Cabinet Division issued a formal notice announcing the nationwide off day to mark Eid Milad un Nabi, the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The notification came after approval from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. It applies across the country, giving citizens a break from work and school on this important religious day.

Sindh’s provincial government also announced its own holiday for the same date. This means offices, schools, and most businesses in the province will remain shut, matching the federal decision.

The date was set after Pakistan’s moon-sighting body met last week. The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, led by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, found that the Rabi ul Awal moon had not appeared. As a result, the 12th of the month falls on this coming Wednesday.

Eid Milad un Nabi holds deep meaning for Muslims worldwide. It falls on the 12th day of Rabi ul Awal, the third month in the Islamic lunar calendar. Families and communities mark the day by praying together, giving to those in need, and reflecting on the Prophet’s teachings.

For many, this occasion is more than just a day off. It’s a moment to reconnect with faith and community values. Mosques across Pakistan will likely host special gatherings, and neighborhoods often light up with decorations in celebration.

As the holiday approaches, residents can expect a quieter week with government offices, banks, and schools closed nationwide.
