Glaukos Reports Sustained Vision Improvements After Single Epioxa Treatment
Glaukos Reports Three-Year Success of Epioxa Eye Treatment
According to the company, none of the patients who received a single Epioxa treatment required additional intervention during the three-year follow-up period.
Eyes treated with Epioxa showed a 1.9-diopter improvement in maximum corneal curvature compared with baseline after three years, indicating sustained corneal flattening and stabilisation.
Glaukos reported that approximately 29 percent of treated eyes gained at least two lines on a standard vision chart, while 20 percent recorded improvements of three or more lines compared with their baseline measurements.
The findings provide further evidence supporting Epioxa as a less invasive treatment option for keratoconus. Unlike some conventional procedures, the treatment does not require removal of the cornea’s outer protective layer before administration.
The study included 38 eyes from 35 patients, with 92 percent of treated eyes completing the three-year assessment.
Glaukos also reported that no serious adverse events, treatment-related adverse events or treatment discontinuations associated with Epioxa occurred during the follow-up period.
Keratoconus is an eye condition that commonly develops during adolescence or early adulthood. It causes the cornea to become progressively thinner and change shape, potentially resulting in blurred or distorted vision.
In advanced cases, the condition can significantly affect eyesight and may eventually require a corneal transplant.
The latest findings highlight the potential of Epioxa as a treatment option for managing keratoconus and maintaining improvements in corneal shape and vision over the longer term.
