Gilgit-Baltistan CM Haji Gulbar Khan Stresses Timely Completion of Power Projects

Gilgit-Baltistan: Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Haji Gulbar Khan recently emphasized the importance of meeting timelines for under-construction power projects in the region. Speaking at the Power Steering Committee meeting, Khan stressed that delays will not be tolerated and that all targeted power projects should be completed as per schedule.

In the short period of the current government, approximately 13 MW of additional electricity has been added to the Gilgit system, a significant achievement considering that as many power projects have been completed during this period as in the last ten years.

To ensure the timely completion of power projects, Khan directed the Secretary Electricity to implement a punishment and reward system. This system aims to promote accountability and efficiency within the department. The Chief Minister also emphasized the need for strict decisions to improve governance and service delivery.

Khan attributed the delay in project completion to poor consultancy and a lack of effective monitoring systems. To address this issue, he suggested developing a strategy for future projects to ensure they are completed according to the work plan.

The Chief Minister specifically mentioned the Naltar 16 MW project, which is expected to be completed by May. He warned that strict action would be taken against the concerned company if the project is not completed on time.

In addition to addressing power projects, Khan also highlighted the provincial government’s efforts to promote sports in Gilgit-Baltistan. He announced plans to construct the Royal Polo Ground in a stadium style, providing facilities for players and spectators.

The Chief Minister expressed his commitment to promoting polo, a traditional game in Gilgit-Baltistan, and directed all banks in the province to support the promotion of polo and other sports. A special budget will be allocated for sports promotion in the next financial year.

During a ceremony for the Independence Day Polo Tournament, Khan distributed cheques to participating teams, including Rs 2 lakh to the winning team, Rs 1 lakh to the runner-up team, and Rs 2 lakh to the Gilgit-Baltistan Polo Association.

Overall, Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Haji Gulbar Khan’s efforts aim to promote economic development, improve governance, and enhance the quality of life for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.
