Funeral Prayers Held for Martyrs of South Waziristan Attack at Bannu Cantt

Bannu: Funeral prayers were offered for the soldiers martyred in an exchange of fire with militants in South Waziristan during a solemn ceremony at Bannu Cantonment on Sunday. The ceremony was attended by the Corps Commander Peshawar, senior officers of the Pakistan Army, jawans, and a large number of locals from the area.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the soldiers laid down their lives while repelling a major attack on a security checkpoint in the Makeen area of South Waziristan the previous day. The coordinated assault, carried out by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a group also referred to as Khawarij militants, resulted in the deaths of 16 security personnel, including a civilian camera technician, Waqas Ahmed, from Jamrud.

In the fierce firefight, eight militants were killed, and security forces are continuing a clearance operation to eliminate any remaining threats in the region.

The funeral prayers were held with full military honours, a reflection of the nation’s deep respect for the fallen soldiers. During the ceremony, senior military officials reaffirmed the army’s commitment to eradicating terrorism. “These sacrifices are a testament to our courage and determination in the ongoing war against terrorism,” stated the ISPR.

This attack on the security checkpoint is the latest in a series of militant incidents targeting the armed forces in the volatile region. Security forces remain on high alert, with intensified operations against militants in South Waziristan and other tribal districts.
