Lahore (News Desk): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to closely monitor petroleum reserves across Punjab to maintain economic stability amid the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.
During a meeting in Lahore, the chief minister held discussions with Federal Ministers Muhammad Aurangzeb and Ali Pervaiz Malik regarding the potential impact of the regional conflict on fuel supply. Officials reviewed the current supply, demand, and reserves of petroleum products in the province and agreed on adopting a conservation policy to maintain balance in the fuel market.
Shehbaz Sharif Warns Petrol Hoarders of Legal Action
Maryam Nawaz emphasised the importance of ensuring adequate diesel supplies for the agricultural sector and ordered continuous monitoring of petroleum reserves in all districts. She also directed authorities to launch a strict crackdown on hoarding and warned that no one would be allowed to sell fuel above the officially notified prices.
The chief minister instructed the police and transport departments to keep a close watch on the situation and take firm action against those involved in hoarding or profiteering. She stressed that citizens should not have to face long queues at petrol pumps and that the administration must ensure uninterrupted fuel availability.
Officials also briefed the meeting on the existing reserves of petrol, diesel, LNG and other petroleum products in the province. Authorities noted that in light of the global situation, immediate fuel conservation measures are necessary.
Earlier, in her message on International Women’s Day, the chief minister paid tribute to women across the world, particularly those in Punjab. She said being the province’s first female chief minister allowed her to represent the voice of women and work for their empowerment.
Maryam Nawaz highlighted several initiatives launched by the provincial government for women, including scholarships, e-bikes, WiFi access, and the establishment of a virtual women police station. She also announced welfare initiatives such as the “Rehmat Card” for widows and programmes aimed at improving economic opportunities and safety for women across the province.
